Alateen is for young people affected by someone else's drinking. You don't need a parent's permission to come to a meeting, you don't have to talk, and you can use your first name only. Every Alateen group meets with adult Al-Anon members who have been screened and certified by their Area to serve as Alateen Group Sponsors.

Alateen groups are led by teens and supported by adult Al-Anon members who have been screened, trained, and certified by their Area service structure. Screening requirements, including background checks, are set by each Area and renewed every year. Parents are welcome to contact the group before a first meeting, and Al-Anon meetings are available for the adults in a teen's life.

Alateen is a peer support fellowship for young people affected by a family member's or friend's drinking. It is free, anonymous, and not a substitute for treatment. Groups in the World Service Conference structure operate under Alateen safety requirements administered by each Area, including annual certification of adult sponsors.
